Robert Benton and Brack Maggard formed the partnership that culminated into what is now known as RAB Racing w/ Brack Maggard in an effort to provide a platform for aspiring drivers to find a way to the next level. Whether they are an experienced veteran or young rookie, RAB's mission has been to provide an opportunity to succeed. Graduating drivers thus far include Justin Marks and John Wes Townley.
Since its inception, RAB Racing w/ Brack Maggard has laid a foundation to become one of the top teams in the motorsports industry. Originally founded in August of 2005 RAB Racing w/ Brack Maggard has grown from a team of two part-time crew members in a 2000 sq. foot space into a highly competitive team in both the NASCAR Nationwide Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series with over 25 employees. Operating out of a state-of-the art 40,000 sq. foot facility in the heart of racing country, RAB Racing w/ Brack Maggard is a team of passionate and driven individuals all striving to make their mark in one of America's most competitive sports.
Brack Maggard, a Georgia businessman in the Atlanta area, made his mark helping to establish a successful construction company-Southern Pan Services. SPS is a subcontractor, performing formwork and frame construction for commercial, residential, educational, healthcare, and parking deck projects. Southern Pan Services was incorporated in 1987 as a concrete formwork subcontractor. SPS opened its Miami office in 1995 to better serve the South Florida market and in the following year expanded into the total-frame market with a division called Cadence Structures. Southern Pan Services averages 12 to 18 completions per year. Since 1987, SPS has successfully completed over 450 projects ranging in contract size from $100,000 to $18 million. In the last five years, SPS has formed and erected over 20 million square feet of elevated structures. It wasn't until later in life that Brack was captured by the sport he has grown to love so much.
Robert Benton began his racing career behind the wheel in one of the grass root divisions of racing, NASCAR's Weekly Racing Series. He then graduated up to the ARCA RE/MAX Series and then followed with events in NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series. After some success in the driver's seat and 8 years working as a crew member for Robert Yates Racing's storied #28 team in the Sprint Cup Series, Robert decided to make the transition from driver/crew member to team owner by forming RAB Racing in 2005. In the first couple seasons, RAB Racing w/ Brack Maggard recruited such drivers as Walt Brannen and Damon Lusk to run a limited schedule in the ARCA RE/MAX Series piloting the No. 65.
In 2006, Robert Benton increased his presence in the racing world by running a full schedule in the ARCA RE/MAX Series with drivers Damon Lusk and Justin Marks. In the first full season of competition, RAB Racing w/ Brack Maggard amassed one pole, two top-5 and nine top-10 finishes. More importantly was the successful partnership between RAB Racing and Justin Marks, who would return in 2007 as sole driver of the No. 65 entry. The team would end their second season 5th in the Driver and Owner's championship point standings with one pole, four top-5, and 10 top-10 finishes.
2008 brought a lot of changes to the team with the addition of driver John Wes Townley and sponsor, Zaxby's, but also a new car number, the No. 09. The team also switched from Dodge Chargers to Ford Fusions powered by Roush Yates Engines. On the strength of the team's efforts, RAB Racing finished their third full season 7th in overall Driver and Owner points with one top-5, nine top-10 and 16 top-15 finishes. In addition to running a full schedule in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, the team also fielded cars in seven NASCAR Nationwide Series races for Townley.
With a solid operation in place, Benton expanded his operation in 2009 to run full-time in NASCAR's second tier division, the NASCAR Nationwide Series. With driver John Wes Townley piloting the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford Fusion, the team finished their rookie season 23rd in driver point standings and 7th in the Raybestos Rookie of the year battle amassing six top-20 and 12 top-25 finishes.
